Yahoo and Hotmail Hit by Hackers, Report Says
(The Hosting News) – Computer security company Trend Micro says email services including Hotmail and Yahoo were hacked using the same methods that recently compromised various Gmail accounts.
The security firm says the attacks were launched from separate sources, but had the same goal.
In a post on Trend Micro’s blog, Senior Threat Researcher Nart Villeneuve stated, “The objective of the attackers appears to be to gain access to the target’s Webmail accounts in order to monitor his/her communications and, possibly, to stage future attacks.”
Google recently announced that its Gmail service had been attacked by hackers based in the Chinese city of Jina. The attacks targeted some U.S. officials, among others. The FBI is currently working with Google to further investigate the matter.
