Rackspace Makes SharePoint Investment
(The Hosting News) – Focus on Microsoft SharePoint is set to get a big boost at web hosting provider Rackspace. On Thursday, the company revealed that it had acquired SharePoint consulting company SharePoint 911.
With the acquisition, Rackspace Hosting receives SharePoint911’s services such as administrator support, project management, SharePoint training, site planning, design, and more.
Rackspace initially began offering SharePoint hosting services in 2008. “We are thrilled to have the world-class expertise of SharePoint911 on our team to give us greater application delivery service capabilities,” stated Rackspace CTO John Engates in a press release on the matter.
Engates also said the addition of SharePoint911 would “add the talent and expertise to our teams to make SharePoint deployments easier for our customers while increasing their scalability and performance through better integration of the workload and infrastructure.”
Rackspace offers its SharePoint services for $ 10 dollars per gigabyte. Features of the offering include team organization, document management and integration with Microsoft Office.
By making the acquisition public, Rackspace emphasized SharePoint911’s reputation in their field, pointing to six MVP awards received from Microsoft.
Meanwhile, Sharepoint 911 founder Shane Young signaled he was excited by the move, stating, “With the support of Rackspace, we look forward to continuing that mission and spreading our capabilities within Fanatical Support to our current and future customers.”
With its platform of providing SharePoint support, SharePoint911 is also regarded for its publication of a variety of books on the issue.
Aside from SharePoint hosting, Rackspace offers services including cloud, email hosting, backup and more. The company also recently announced that it had partnered with IT provider Redapt to provide for Rackspace’s private cloud solution.
